Probably my favorite episode so far. My initial thoughts on this is that I think Coach Katoaka made the right call in giving Sawamura the ace number, he literally earned it and not giving it to him sends a bad message to the team who has seen Sawamura grow this season. Giving the number to Sawamura means that if they work hard they can go higher which is something Coach Katoaka holds as a principle of his team. In foresight, I'm thinking that the coach would like to see how the having an official title of "Ace" will affect Sawamura, will he grow or let it pressure him?

Additionally, I think Coach Katoaka is already thinking and looking forward to their 3rd yr, that's where the Ace number will really matter to both of them as they are both more developed as players.

Understandable concerns from Coach Ochiai, but Coach Kataoka knows his boys so much better. Thus he has a higher level of trust and believe in them that the change will only help them grow much stronger. And it's also because of Coach Kataoka who keeps believing in Eijun that he got this far. He has the final say to who gets to play in the field, and he gave Eijun a lot of chances to prove himself when even a professional coach like Ochiai once thought he was useless and was ready to discard him. Coach K must've made mistakes in the past but he continues to grow better with the team.

They played GO EXCEED along with the memories of Eijun's journey! I can't believe we're here. Thanks to TJ-sensei's patience, devotion, and brilliance in writing that he achieved this milestone. And his delivery of this special event in the story was impeccable.

Ochiai only speaking his opinion, and you called it as bullshit. Eijun or Furuya as an ace got their own merit and demerit. I find that you keep insulting the character you didn't like a bunch of times, even when they did something good you never mentioned it as good. While the character you like, when they did something bad, you never insult them, and you keep praising them even from a small good stuff. Remember the joke you make about double standard?
